About Us

ABOUT US:
Detours & Outliers is a weekly podcast where are group of local musicians and friends from the Denver area gather to select and then dissect what is the most out-of-place entry and an artist’s discography.  Each week they take a closer look at that one album in an artist’s discography that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Each week they dive into the history surrounding the making of the album as well as discussing the merits of the songs on the album.  The dig deep to discover whether the album in question is a band’s personal passion project or if it’s the cynical cash-grab of the record company.  They examine whether the musician is still trying to defend the record or if they’re trying to ignore it like some sort of red-headed stepchild.  They theorize whether the public should’ve seen this left-turn coming and whether this album represented a potential second career for the artist – or just an artistic dead end.

Mixing a good amount of technical expertise with a large dollop of humor and laughs, Detours & Outliers examines everything from Frank Zappa’s attempts at doo-wop to Kiss’s ridiculous concept album.  It may be their best album, it may be their worst album, but it’s that one album where the artist was so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
